In 2011, the Florida Legislature abruptly changed laws regarding sinkholes.  The changes permitted insurance companies to provide coverage for “structural damage” instead of “physical damage.”  The Legislature then provided a definition of structural damage that insurance companies often believe give them the authority to deny sinkhole claims when they should be extending coverage.
